Urbia Cataratas Jericoacoara brings together the expertise of two of Brazil’s largest natural park concessionaires, combining over 20 years of experience in municipal, state, and federal contracts.
Grupo Cataratas, which has been operating with excellence since 1999 in managing and delivering transformative experiences in parks and tourist attractions in Brazil, began its history in the city of Foz do Iguaçu with the concession of services at Iguaçu National Park. The group expanded its operations to EcoNoronha in 2011, and the following year to Rio de Janeiro with the concession of Paineiras-Corcovado and the creation of AquaRio. In addition, the group manages the Three Borders Landmark (2015) in Foz do Iguaçu, BioParque do Rio (2016), the former RioZoo in Rio de Janeiro, and AquaFoz, the future aquarium in Foz do Iguaçu, creating transformative experiences and leaving a positive legacy at each destination.
Urbia, known for its work in natural and historical heritage, manages more than ten iconic parks in the southeast and south of the country, including Ibirapuera Park, São Paulo’s postcard, the Aparados da Serra and Serra Geral National Parks (Green Canyons), as well as the world’s largest native urban forest, Cantareira Forest. Urbia’s management is based on Sustainable Development, Citizenship, Preservation and Conservation of natural and historical environments, and operational efficiency. Together, these forces form the consortium with the mission to transform Jericoacoara National Park into a model of sustainable tourism, combining innovation, environmental conservation, and a positive impact on the community and the environment.
With a management focused on excellence, we will connect people to nature, providing unforgettable experiences in one of the world’s most iconic destinations.
Created in 2002, Jericoacoara National Park aims to protect not only the fauna and flora but also the dynamic ecosystems of the mobile dunes, which can shift up to 30 meters per year. These constant changes uniquely shape the landscape, serving as a reminder of nature’s impermanence. Before the creation of the park, the area was a fishing village that, over the decades, transformed into one of the world’s most sought-after tourist destinations, all while preserving its natural essence.
In addition to its biodiversity, the park is famous for its natural landmarks:
Jericoacoara National Park is more than a tourist destination; is a celebration of nature, biodiversity and the landscapes that make Ceará such a special place.
The Jericoacoara National Park is managed by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), a federal agency responsible for managing the federal conservation units in Brazil. Since 1999, the park’s tourism services have been managed under a concession. Since December 2022, the concessionaire Urbia Cataratas S.A. has been responsible for overseeing tourism operations.
